Traditional Rituals
Since 2018, the Association has supported the rituals of the Xikrin calendar, which pass knowledge from one generation to the next.
About the project Traditional Rituals
Building the Ngàb, the warriors’ house, the political space where each village makes its decisions and learns from the Kubengêt.
The Ngàb, the warriors’ house, is the political space where each village makes its decisions and the place of ceremonies and rituals. Contact with non-Indigenous customs weakened Mẽbêngôkre practices, which made gatherings with elders and artisans even more important to keep knowledge alive.
Building it was an activity foreseen in the Belo Monte PBA-CI to mitigate the project’s interference in daily village life. It was carried out with the cultural and institutional strengthening programs, combining traditional and institutional knowledge. Berê acted as proponent, in planning, organization, execution and documentation.
Leaders first met in Krãnh village to plan the houses in four villages: size, resources and schedule. Then each village built its own with the help of the others, gathering the wood, the babassu thatch and the embira fiber. When the warriors’ house was finished, the community danced and sang for hours.

Since 2018, the Association has supported the rituals of the Xikrin calendar, which pass knowledge from one generation to the next.
About the project Traditional Rituals
